An amazing family - related and unrelated

Preface- yesterday morning I woke up with the flu. I am pretty sure it wasn't morning sickness because it was so intense, so quickly and it wasn't just throwing up that caused me to go to the bathroom quickly. I am wondering if it could have been food poisoning perhaps since no one else has felt sick.

Now for the amazing people in my life.

I will first start with my mom, at 7:00am she took a phone call and helped me figure out my game plan. I was worried about my baby and needed to know what to do and when to call my doctor. she also put up with my phone calls through out the day when I just said, i still feel horrible, I am still throwing up.

At 7:15 my sister Carrie called asking if I will need help this weekend since being sick put me behind schedule.

Then at about 8, I realized I am going to need some propel and gatorade so I didn't get dehydrated. I also realized that I was not going to feel well enough to go down to Fred Meyer and get some - even a quick trip. So I called Amy Heppler who was right over with stuff. I love her! She is someone that I know I can count on when I am in need.

Quianna did a couple hours of cleaning the house. She was a rock star and only complained when she had to keep wiping booger off Elijah's wall (I think they were probably spider guts because they were way too high for anyone to reach without standing on a chair to wipe their boogers - but she has a phobia of bugs and boogers so I cut her some slack)

Jamie Gilson picked Elijah up from scout camp and let him stay there over night so that he didn't get sick, I didn't have to worry about entertaining or feeding him, and I wouldn't have to get him ready or take him to scouts. That was a huge relief.

Elijah woke himself up on time with his alarm clock yesterday morning and got ready without being asked - and when he found out I was sick, he made his own sandwich! He called last night to say goodnight to us and he wanted to see how I was doing. He is growing up so fast!

Last but definitely not least, my wonderful husband. I am so fortunate to be married to an amazing man. The last couple of weeks he has been helping out so much and getting the kids to work too. I noticed on Sunday that recently if there is something I need, he'll do it - no complaining. Yesterday he put up with my texting him the number of times I puked though out the day, :-P He also came home, went and took Elijah some clothes, went to a rehearsal, bought some toilet paper, then kept asking what I needed. He gave me a blessing and went to bed after making sure I was all set up to sleep on the couch (that was my choice). Once he went to bed I realized I wanted my own pillow, so I texted him and he brought it up right away. he asked me if there was anything else I needed. I didn't want to ask but he must have sensed it because he asked if I wanted him to sit with me up here for a while. It was exactly what I needed! So he sat on the floor by the couch rubbing my head and holding my hand until i was relaxed enough to go to sleep. He is an incredible man and I love and appreciate him deeply!

So the point of this post is for me to say how grateful i am for the people I have in my life. I was talking to Jamie yesterday while she was asking what I needed, and I told how she and Amy have helped a lot. She mentioned how people ask her what she needs when her husband will be in Afghanistan for 7 months and she'll say, "I've got Kim and Amy, that's all I need." it is totally true, here in Spokane I miss my family, but heavenly father has blessed me with some sisters in the ward that I know I can count on. It's like having a family I can rely on while I am away from my actual family. I am very blessed to have such wonderful caring people in my life- both related and non related.

Moving and pregnancy...

Not a very good idea. (although, its not like we knew we were going to be pregnant when we decided to move)

I have been very blessed with very minor morning sickness. However, I get spurts of where I get exhausted very easily. The last couple of weeks I have been fine - maybe because I haven't done much at all so there was no reason why to get exhausted - but the last week since I have started to really crunch and get our house ready for moving, I have been so tired!

We start our day with 3-4 lessons of history because we need to finish it this week before the course gets canceled. I thought we had all summer, but turns out we don't. Then I work for Sierra for 2 hours, and then I finish up with either cleaning the house or packing, but usually both.

Then that gets me to dinner. We haven't had the most extravagant meals lately. For example, we are eating leftover polish dogs and top ramen. That's all we have in the house, and that's all I have energy for. I don't want to go shopping because

I hope I never have to do this again while being pregnant. It's tough.

8 weeks!

8 weeks and 2 days and I haven't thrown up yet! I have been very blessed. I have had minimum nausea with this pregnancy. Heavenly Father must have known that I needed an easy one with us moving this month, and me trying to figure out my diabetes that I would need all the get help I can get.

I told my sister on Thursday and she said, "Oh good, We were all worried about you dying. I'm glad you are not in dying stage!" I just hope that it will continue to be this great. I keep thinking "Could I really have one of those pregnancies that I don't throw up?" I'm glad my sister doesn't resent me for feeling so good.

I was telling Brian of my progress when he asked me about my baking. After saying, "I haven't thrown up yet!" he said, "Knock on wood." Jokingly I knocked on his head, and he said, "No I'm serious- knock on real wood! You don't want to jinx this!"

My baby is now the size of a jelly bean - and it doesn't look like a whale anymore! I don't know what it looks like now... actually, kind of like a baby. You can see what I see on my baby app on my iPod. Week 8 looks a lot better than 7 and see that at week 7, it sure does look like a whale/manatee thing! I'm so glad that we might be having a baby rather than a huge sea creature :-) We'll see what it grows into as I get further a long.

Baby's First Picture

Last Friday we had an ultrasound to find out how far along we were. It was lots of fun to have Brian there with me. He held my hand as I laid there and we looked up at the screen together. The baby's heartbeat was like a strobe light. It was so cool. We found out that I am 6 weeks and 5 days making our due date January 24. The baby is .44cm long. It could be bigger now - that was on Friday.

Something that was funny that happened during the ultrasound was the technician had said, "Everything looks good, there's the baby, and there's only one of them..." then Brian said, "I didn't even know that was on the table!" she said, "That's always on the table" Brian replied with, "Man, I don't know even know what to think if I was walking out of here thinking there were two"

This may be too much information, but I think it's cool, and I want it documented. The baby was conceived the day that we had our answer from the temple we should start trying. I don't remember if we actually did the deed that night, but I must have ovulated and the egg was fertilized that night.

Baking a Baby...

The other day, I was exhausted by 5:30, and we still had a cub scout pack meeting to go to and hanging out at the Gilson's. I told Brian as we were getting ready to go I said, "I'll tell ya, making a baby sure is tiring..." he said, "Making a baby? no, that's not tiring, that's fun... You're baking a baby"

So this morning I was still in bed around 8:30 when Brian was leaving for work, and he said something like, "Don't you think its time to get up and start the day." I said, "I'm baking!"

______________

My appointment went well yesterday. I like most of the people at the OBGYN's office. One of the front girls is kinda rude, more like just short with you, like she is too busy to take the time... maybe that's just my first and second impression of her. I like everyone else, they are sweet and will take the time to answer your questions. I like Jessica, my practitioner. She spent a lot of time with me to help me understand stuff even though I couldn't make it to the New Beginnings class that you are suppose to go to before your first appointment. (I couldn't make it because Elijah was receiving his bear in scouts!)

They gave me a packet with a big book that goes from month to month and then labor, delivery, postpartum, and covers special conditions in pregnancy. It is a really helpful book. Its kind of like "What to expect when you're expecting" but better.

Because of my irregular cycle last month, I get to go have an ultrasound next Friday so we can find out how far a long I am. I am pretty sure I am 6 weeks around today, but just in case. They said by next friday we should be able to see the heartbeat. FUN!

__________________________

I smoothed things over with Quianna yesterday. The only thing she ended up hearing was "I took a test" and "the kids don't know yet" so I was able to say that I took a test to make sure my body was ready to get pregnant. She said, "So you're pregnant" and I said, "I never said that" and her smile totally dropped and she said, "Well that's a big disappointment... a very big disappointment!"

none the less we ended up telling Brian's immediate family. We figured since my sisters and mom knew, we should tell them. We were trying to keep it a secret a little while longer, but it's ok. I am kinda glad that our families know because if something does happen we will have a big support system to help us through.
I think we might end up telling the kids sooner than Father's Day. I feel weird having all of our families know except for them. They need to know soon, I just want to figure out a fun way to do it.

I goofed

So my sister called yesterday and asked me about this blog. I tried to deny it because I thought it was secret. Apparently there's still one place where people can see that you have this blog even if you mark that you don't want to see it on the list.

So I was excited to finally talk to someone about me being pregnant but I had 45 min to make dinner and get our family to Elijah's pack meeting so I was in the kitchen talking to her. I was pretty sure Quianna was taking a shower and Elijah was in his room reading, so I figured it would be ok to talk as long as I wasn't so blatant about things. Apparently I was wrong because Quianna wasn't in the shower, she was in her room and Elijah was in the shower an as soon as she heard, "the kids don't know yet, we are telling them on fathers day," she ran downstairs where Brian was taking a nap and said, "I know! I know!" I don't know all I heard I don't know if I can back track from it. However I don't. want to look back and think about this time and remember telling lies to the kids, I want to remember that when Quianna found out, she couldn't contain her excitement that she spilled her juice while filling up her cup at dinner. She was a complete clutz at dinner and it is fun to look back at.

Anyway, Brian wants me to talk to Quianna to find out what she knows, but I'm nervous because I am so much better at being honest than thinking on my feet.

A Daunting Task

Ok, so before I got pregnant, I knew I would have to be in good control of my blood sugar - kind of "It's my duty" so to speak, but today through out the last few days since I have known I'm pregnant, I have developed a sense of ownership and realization that I create the environment my baby is growing in and I need to control it better. This last week I have been looking at my blood sugar and I have had a high incident each day. Yes that's frustrating, so today I decided that I was going to be really good at making sure I let the insulin kick in before I ate something and making sure I always knew where I was.

Well for some reason I have been high all day long, and I don't know how to bring it down. I have had the following to eat to day:

  • 5 ritz crackers
  • 1/3 apple
  • 2 string cheeses
  • 10 carrots and some ranch dip
I am starving... and its not because I don't want to wait for my insulin to kick in, its because my sugars wont go down. So now I am tossed because I either eat and make my blood sugar stay high, or starve myself, which is also starving my baby.

I am caught between two worlds, I need to make sure my sugars are controlled, or else I'm harming my baby, but I also need to make sure I am eating, or else I am starving my baby. I just the best for my baby and for me. It is a very daunting task and I don't know if I am up for the task.
